''Perionyx excavatus'' is a commercially produced Earthworm. It's is reputed for its ability to create fine worm castings quickly. It is recently becoming more popular in North America for composting purposes. Generic names for this species include "composting worms", "blues", or "Indian blues". They belong to the ''Perionyx'' genus. Their origins may be the Himalayan mountains. This species is suited for vermicomposting in tropical and subtropical regions.
